by J'ai lu, Published 1995 I thought this book added quite a few interesting details about Haley's comet, the development of Europa, and even Ganymede (which was kind of surprising). 3001 is a story that only Arthur C. Clark could tell. But he captures the wryness perfectly. An update in 2001 stated that there was no further development on the project.
A good read nonetheless and I was satisfied with the conclusion however no real pace to the plot made it tedious in its arrival.
It also analyzes reviews to verify trustworthiness. To preserve knowledge and save mankind, Seldon gathers the best minds in the Empire, both scientists and scholars, and brings them to a bleak planet at the edge of the Galaxy to serve as a beacon of hope for a fututre generations.

Wry.But the journey to Halley's Comet is interesting (and if you've seen the real-life photographs of comet 67P from the Rosetta probe you'll find Clarke's descriptions of a cometary surface remarkably accurate). It is huge, weighing more than ten trillion tons. I bought The Quest by Nelson Demille and it was narrated by Scott Brick.
