We've seen him to be a bad person and he's also super manipulative. For know he really did serve a purpose of keeping Maeve and Otis separated. I know he was messing with her gas or something, but I got more of a flirty vibe with the smiley face note.

If the writers' intent is to eventually put them together once they are 'ready', then I would like to see a period of growth together that justifies and pays off the growth they went through while apart.

At least when I went to school in Britain, there were three terms each year. Till episode 6 he was barely a friend. I mostly agree, but I'm pretty sure the timeline has them in their second term of their first year of sixth-form, meaning graduation wouldn't happen in season 3 unless there's a big time-skip. Why Isaac Deleted Otis' Message For Maeve I suppose they could try to go in a different direction next season, or string out the will they/won't they for yet another season, but those are both very hard things to do. I don't see anything that disagrees with that. Logically, there must be a chuck of the plot of them graduating, and leaving for college.
So when Otis inevitably brings up the voicemail, whether she addresses it or dismisses it, she would probably confront Isaac because she trusts Otis more, despite causing trouble this season. I really want them to just be friends, I feel like they’d be perfect for each other like that. Isaac is probably going to play an important role, despite nobody liking him. However, if she decides to pursue degree in literature, that might be also a plot point. Reason 3: Since the show is about growing up and dealing with changes, Otis and Maeve will end up together in first few episodes.
However I think maeve is set on otis now, and doesn't have the mental capacity to be even thinking of a different relationship. I hope the show has Issac take ownership of what he did; he has otherwise been a good friend to Maeve. Reason 1: Maeve was exposed to the bullishit her whole life. Fuck Isaac btw. They know the audience wants Otis + Maeve.
