A well-groomed path gives way to a narrow twisting hiking trail that circles the lake. Head south (right), immediately crossing the South Fork Snoqualmie River, and take the first right turn into Ollalie State Park, a few hundred feet from the highway. There is also a beach and picnic area. The “Anglicized” version of his Irish name “Wark” now lends itself to the 561 hectares of Mount Work Regional Park.” The trail itself was a fairly easy hike —wide enough in most places for two to walk side-by-side (or a parent to walk with a child), though in a few places there were steep sections that reminded me of Mount Finlayson . The trails to the summit lead through natural glacial rock formations. To drive to the Munn Road side from downtown Victoria, make your way to Douglas Street and head northbound as you drive out of the city. Mount Douglas Park can be seen in the upper left hand corner. Contact BC Transit for schedule information. From the Quilcene Ranger Station drive 4.6 miles south on US 101. From the gravel parking lot off of Munn Road, follow the trail past the map board and into the forest. Don’t expect any old-growth on this frontcountry hike – except perhaps old growth rhododendron and salal. Colors indicate trail is missing specified detail.
The trail eases, exiting the dense cover of forest as it approaches a small marsh and turns sharply east toward another unmarked trail junction. (While it is also a designated stock trail, riders and pack animals rarely make an appearance.)
Please ensure to pickup after your dog and remove excrement from the park. The trail head is about a quarter mile up the road with pull over parking on the left side of the road.
