There's no heat at all between the characters, and nothing in the film positions Elena as the stereotypical jaded war correspondent who'll take whatever pleasure presents itself on the road. He's a good filmmaker, but I highly doubt I will ever sit down a re-watch his films as religiously as some film fans do. It’s as difficult to be invested in McMahon’s [Hathaway] relationship with her father as it is her sudden, baffling romance with Morrison [Affleck], let alone follow the complex plot, which jumps around North and Central America, muttering about arms dealers and contras without actually saying why any of this is important. The script was deemed unnecessarily complicated to the point of being nonsensical, and not even the actors, who are trying their hardest to make this material work, can make the movie watchable. You're almost there!
